Sycanthera is an outcast in Daldan, feared by the villagers and hated by her father. She has the tail and eyes of a wildcat, and the whispers are that she's cursed by the trickster gods. After a rite of passage goes terribly wrong, Syca flees to the capital city, desperate to escape.

Thristan is a barkeep in Jacinta, the capital city of a nation barely a century old. He keeps his head down and works, hoping to forget his past. When he stumbles across a girl with golden eyes and a secret remarkably similar to his own, he realizes he isn't the only one.

When Syca and Thristan are attacked by assassins throwing insults about 'changers,' they become desperate to find out their true history. They must wade through lies, secrets, and legends of magic and gods to discover their stories - and how they are connected to people in the kingdom who have gone missing.
